In late June, 2003, one of my co-workers found a kitten in his yard. She
was thin, exhausted and almost too weak to move, so he brought her inside and
gave her food and water. He lives in a suburb out on the fringes of the
countryside, and thought her mother might have been a stray who'd been killed
or something. He couldn't keep her himself, so I wound up agreeing to adopt
her.
She got a clean bill of health from the vet, didn't have fleas or ear
mites, and did't act like she was born feral, which makes me think she may
have been dumped rather than orphaned. At any rate, she has a home now.
Gilmith explored the household with enthusiasm and quickly made the
acquaintance of the other cats. She is bold, assertive, and doesn't seem to
be afraid of much, so she fits in fine around here. She is very lively,
playing a lot with Megaera and Zenobia in particular, and enjoys climbing
and romping. She's not a lap cat and doesn't much like being held, but is
quite affectionate, often asking to be petted.
